It's well known in this part of France that the season starts with Roland Garros and then moves to Precigne in the Sarthe followed by Morannes in Maine & Loire. Where is Precigne and Morannes you might well ask. Well, Morannes is my local village and Precigne is just up the road. Each year I play in both tournaments and even, yes it's true, won Morannes a few years back. (I have to repeat this because since then I haven't won much!)
Well, the tournaments have started and I added a new one to my list this year. I played appallingly badly at Le Lion d'Angers last week and lost to a much better player. Today I played at Precigne and was full of worry that my game would not improve. Well, it did a bit and just enough to beat my very nice French opponent Julie 6/4 6/3
I'm writing this now because my next match is on Wednesday against a much better and much younger (she's only 15!) player and if I win a couple of games I will be pleased!
Morannes sadly has very few women signed up. Whether or not we will be able to have a tournament I don't know - a minimum of eight is required and at present we are three, possibly four. Still, the mens' started today and the next two weeks should be fun if nothing else.
So think of me on Wednesday and if you like send me messages with what you think the final score will be. If anyone gets it 100% correct I'll send them a present.
